Die Swakkere Vat ("the weaker vessel") is a one-act play by H.A. Fagan (1889-1963).

Originally published in the 1942-1943 Jaarboek van die Johannesburg Skrywerskring, thereafter often anthologised, e.g. in Twee blyspele (Nasionale Pers, 1945); Ses Eenbedrywe by Van Schaik, 1946; Die Stille Haard en die Swakkere Vat by Naspers and in Spel en Spelers by Van Schaik.

Performance history in South Africa

1943: Presented by the Kaapstadse Afrikaanse Toneelvereniging, directed by Anna Viljoen, with Gerrit van der Merwe.

1947: Anna Viljoen directed the play for K.A.T.'s entry to the FATSSA competition.

1964: Staged by the Church Youth Society of Wilgehof at the ATKV Amateur Theatre Competition in Bloemfontein, directed by Ria van Niekerk, wih a cast including Annelise van der Ryst in the role of Bella.

1978: Performed performed in the Libertas-teater in Stellenbosch on 14 March as part of the USAT Dramafees by students of the residences Libertas and Aristea at the University of Stellenbosch.
