Biography
Training
He graduated at Jazzart Dance Theatre in 2006 under the directorship of Alfred Hinkel and subsequently joined the Jazzart Theatre Company.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
In 2014, he co-founded the dance company, Figure of Eight Dance Collective together with Shaun Oelf. In 2016 they won Dance category at the Western Cape Cultural Affairs Awards.
His choreographic credits include: The Johaar Mosaval Journey by Cape Town City Ballet (2018), Lara Foot’s multiple-award winning productions Fishers of Hope (2014-2016) and The Inconvenience Of Wings (2014-2016), Adagio for a Hacked Life (2016), the 2015 Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, Alistair Izobell’s Remembering the Lux (2015), Struck Silent (2014), Silence of the Music (2011), Artscape Theatre’s Plekkie Innie Son (2009) and Now Now (2005). He choreographed Langarm (Fugard Theatre; 2018) and was Resident Choreographer and Dance Captain for West Side Story (2018).
In 2017, Grant took on the role as Assistant Director for the musical, Calling Me Home, that debuted in Johannesburg. Following up from that, he became head choreographer for Marc Lottering’s sold-out musical, Aunty Merle: The Musical hosted at the Baxter Theatre (2017/2018).
Awards, etc
Grant was also the recipient of the 2014 Baxter Theatre Artist of Year Award and the 2016 Naledi Theatre Award winner for Best Original Choreography.
