Archy and Mehitabel [1] is a musical based on the activities of the fictional characters created in 1916 by American Don Marquis (1878-1937) [2].

Collections of the "Archy" stories have been published and re-printed numerous times over the years. Titles in the series include Archy and Mehitabel (1927), published by Faber and Faber in London, 1931.

Performance history in South Africa

In South Africa it was produced by PACT in the 1970s starring Cathy Cota, Tim Plewman, Michael Richard, Patti Smit, Kryska Witkowska.

Archy's life of Mehitabel was presented by the Department of Speech and Drama, University of Natal, at the Square Space Theatre, adapted and directed by Ann Wakefield, May 1980.
