The Van Zyl Hall is the name of the first vaulted chamber in the Cango Caves[1] near Oudtshoorn, named after Jacobus van Zyl, who ostensibly was the first person to find them. The hall has occasionally been used as the venue for theatrical performances, including a series of annual Passion Plays in the early 1960s (discontinued in 1964), a student production of Macbeth in 1967 and the revived, from 1991 onwards the biennial Passion Play, now using a text called Só Moes die Liefde Ly by Charles Fryer.
