Houd-den-Bek, a novel by André P. Brink, adapted for the stage by Tjaart Potgieter. Against the background of the uprising of the slaves in the Koue Bokkeveld in 1825, the story draws a bleak picture of oppression and the fight for individual freedom.

Design by James MacNamara, lighting designer Paul Pamboukian. This was the production presented at the National Arts Festival in June 1990.
