Meulenhof se Mense (novel, 1961)

The novel

Meulenhof se Mense ("The people of Meulenhof") is a novel by Linda Joubert (pseudonym of Henriette Grové) that tells of the three Vermeulen sisters, the only ones of the proud Vermeulen family who still remain in the old homestead, and are forced to take in a lodger.

First published in 1961 by Human & Rousseau, Cape Town, and reprinted numerous times since.

The series

Produced in 1980 by the SABC, the screenplay based on the novel and written and directed by Stephan Bouwer, with Petru Wessels, Annelisa Weiland, Elize Britz, Mary Dreyer, André Rossouw, Paul Slabolepszy, Will Roberts, Percy Sieff, Kathleen Lee, Bruwer Engelbrecht, Margot Luyt, Emile Aucamp, Ben Blanckenberg and Lina Waldeck.

The technical crew included Bryan Deuchar (cinematographer); Anke Breytenbach (assistant director); Gretchen Holzapfel and Sylvia Martin (editors); Neels Bezuidenhout (costume designer); Thea Eygelsheim, Brenda Fahy and Cheryl van Staden (makeup artists); Anna Jones (set designer); Dave Ruthenberg (set dresser); Stash Couvaras (as Stash Couvaris), Neels de Bruin, Johnny Grieshaber, Roy Smithers and Richard Sprawson (sound); and Don Williamson (final mix).
