Biography
Training
Graduated with Drama and English from Potchefstroom University at the end of 1980 and was awarded a teacher's diploma in 1981.
Career
Permanent member of PACOFS 1985-1988. After time spent with PACT he turned freelance in 1991.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
His first appearance on the professional stage was in Ek, Anna van Wyk for CAPAB in 1984. Acted in Somewhere on the Border (PACOFS). Since 1989 he played for PACT in Die Storm, As You Like It, Vat hom, Flaffie!, as well as in four pantomines. He appeared as Duval in Antjie Somers and as Turkey and other characters in Honk!.
He appeared (as A.J. van der Merwe) in the 1993 PACOFS production of Die Keiser.
Directed My Vrou se Man se Vrou, assistant director for Doringrosie (1992), directed Die Waterwyser (1992). He performed in Vannemerwe! by Charles J. Fourie in 1996. Directed Die Man met die Dertien Kinders (1999).
Television Vleuels, played Piet Vlek in Meester (1991) A community production Struisvogelstories by André-Jacques van der Merwe at the KKNK Festival in 2001.
