He was born in Kwe Kwe, Zimbabwe in 1960. He is married to the actress Megan Willson.
Training
Martin studied at Rhodes University in the early 1980s.
Career
He joined PACT in 1983; turned freelance in 1987.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
As a student Martin co-directed A Slight Accident by James Saunders with Denys Webb as an Honours class production, for the National Arts Festival in July 1982.
As a stage actor he appeared in over 20 productions for PACT.
Productions include Far Cry, Somewhere on the Border, Othello, Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1988), Full Hookup (PACT), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (NAPAC, 19**), Paul Slabolepszy's Smallholding (Snap Productions, 1989) and Mooi Street Moves (The Laager, 1992, followed by a European tour), Tennessee Williams’s The Glass Menagerie (1994), Athur Miller's Death of a Salesman (2001), Waiting for Godot (2010), Hinterland (2013).
He has also appeared in Macbeth, Echoes of Anger, The Rise and Fall of the First Empress Bonaparte, The Comedy of Errors, Much Ado about Nothing, Death of a Salesman, The Night of the Iguana, Shooting Billy the Kid, The Odd Couple, Romeo and Juliet, Titus Andronicus, Hostile Takeover, The Bacchae, The Winter's Tale, Translations, The Grapes of Wrath, When the Cat's Away, The Front Page, Tom Jones, The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband, Street-Woman, Comrades, Amandla Mr Fassbinder and Via Castiglione.
