Thark was originally presented at the Alwysch Theatre in London in 1927.

Performance history in South Africa
1950: Presented by the Brian Brooke Company at the Hofmeyr Theatre in November.
1990: Presented by CAPAB Drama at the Nico Malan Theatre 10-31 March. Directed by Keith Grenville, designed by Birrie le Roux, lighting design by Malcolm Hurrell. The cast: Jonathan Pienaar, Fiona Coyne, Pauline O'Kelly, Willie Fritz, Joy Stewart-Spence, Norman Coombes, Ralph Lawson, Diane Wilson, Gretha Brazelle, Don Maguire, André Roothman.
