L'Enragé ("The enraged or the rabid [man]") is a French play by Charles Etienne Boniface (1787 – 1853).

Most probably written before Boniface reached the Cape.

Translated into Dutch in 1823 by Joseph Suasso de Lima as De Dolzinnige, of De Gewaande Dolleman ("The Lunatic, or The Apparent Madman"), or better known simply as De Dolzinnige

Performances in South Africa

1807: First performed in French as L'Enragé by the French Theatre Company (or Het Fransche Liefhebbery Geselschap) in the The French Theatre (Den Franschen Schouwburg), Cape Town, playing for three evenings.

1823: Performed in Dutch as as De Dolzinnige, of De Gewaande Dolleman at the African Theatre on 6 October by Honi Soit qui Mal y Pense, with Celina, of Het Kind des Geheims (Pixérecourt) in the African Theatre and a Ballet Pastoral composed and directed by ballet teacher J.L. Petersen.
