Fritz Steyn (1913-19**) was an Afrikaans journalist, critic and playwright.

Born F.S. Steyn

Wrote his first review (of Schumann's Hantie kom Huistoe by Ons Teaterjie-Toneelgroep) for Die Republikein in 1936. He later (1937-1938) became a member of the management committee of Volksteater* *


His plays

His début play, Grond, was first performed by the Volksteater in Pretoria in 1938, directed by P.R. Skawran.

Other work includes Hulle sien die Kruis ("They see the cross", commissioned for the Huguenot Festival, 1939 and produced by Volksteater), His most famous play was the wildly popular Die Wildsboudjie (first performed by Volksteater 1940, filmed in 1947), which was performed regularly over the years, and a professional revival in 199* was a smashing success for Pieter Fourie.
