Grond ("Ground" or "Land") is a drama in three acts by Fritz Steyn (1913-1986).

The original text

The author's first dramatic work, written in the 1930s, it is a play about the complex role of land ("grond") in the lives of the Afrikaner. A son who does not enjoy farming, qualifies as a teacher. However, he promises his father that the farm will remain in the family and keeps his feelings about the farm a secret from his children. However, they too rebel against farming as a life, but are persuaded by their father to keep the farm in the family. Finally, a hailstorm and arrears in mortgage payments forces them off the farm.

First published by Voortrekkerpers in 1938. Subsequently re-printed 1942, 1955, 1957 and 1960.
