Lorna Cowell. (19** -) was a South African actress.


Biography

She had her early training in Durbannwhere she was a prominent member of the Drama Group, appearing in plays by Shaw, Drinkwater, Lonsdale and Priestley. She was chairwoman of the Drama League in Pietemaritzburg and has the distinction of being the first woman to broadcast from Durban.

Contribution to South African theatre, film, media and performance

As stage actress

André Huguenet, Siegfried Mynhardt, Leon Gluckman, Frank Wise, Vivienne Drummond, Mathilde Hanekom and Enone van den Bergh. Inter alia, she appeared in Dear Brutus, An Inspector Calls and The Firstborn for them.

Other performances included roles in The Women (1950), the Brian Brooke production of Charley's Aunt in 1960; the Neill-Firth Company production of Caste (T.W. Robertson) at the Intimate Theatre in 1968; PACT's production of A Month in the Country (Turgenev/Williams) in 1969; the Market Theatre production of Skirmishes (Hayes) in 197*.

As film actress

Appeared in Boerboel de Wet (1961), The Hellions (1961) and Gevaarlike Spel (1962).
