Voor Dit Gebeur ("Before it happens ") is a one-act play with music by Peter Snyders.

The original text

Written in “Kaaps”, or "Cape Afrikaans", it is a play about municipal workers and the effect on them of finding an abandoned baby in a drain.

The text unpublished.

Translations and adaptations

The text later expanded to become the full-length play called Die Drein.

Performance history in South Africa

1975: First performed in the Joseph Stone Auditorium by the Belhar Amateur Dramavereniging

1977: Performed by Unison Players

Bound copy of the typed text of Voor Dit Gebeur, found in the Stellenbosch Drama Department archives in 2022, and now held in the Performing Arts Research Collection (PARC) at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation, with offices at Pieter Okkers House, 7 Joubert Street, Stellenbosch, South Africa.
