Three Wise Fools is a comedy in three acts by American playwright Austin Strong (1881-1952)[].


The original text

Produced at the Criterion Theatre on 31 October, 1918, and published in Ottawa by Geo. H. Popham, limited in 1919.

Translations and adaptations

Filmed as a silent film in 1923 and as a sound film in 1946.

Translated into Afrikaans and adapted to a Cape Town setting, as Drie Wyse Dwase (or on occasion Die Drie Wyse Dwase) by C. de Wet Marais om 1937.

Performances in South Africa

1937: Produced in Afrikaans as Die Drie Wyse Dwase in the Afrikanerkoffiehuis, Cape Town, by K.A.T. during June, directed by Johanna van Vuuren. It opened on 15 June, with a cast that included Herman Steytler, Oloff de Villiers, Urbane Kenney, Hilda Latsky, Irma Cluver, J.J. Blom, André de Wet, Peter Wissing, Ben Swart, Steph Smeda and Piet du Toit.
