The Hunger Artist Departs is a Polish play by Tadeusz Rozewicz.

Original title: Odejście głodomora. Author's name also found as Tadeusz Różewicz

The original text

Inspired by Franz Kafka's short story, "Ein Hungerkünstler" ("A Hunger Artist", 1922), it is a play about a professional performer who starves himself as an art form but eventually finds himself isolated as public interest wanes.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into English by Adam Czerniawski and published - with Mariage Blanc - in the volume Mariage Blanc and Hunger Artist Departs: Two Plays by Marion Boyars Publishers Ltd in 1983.
