Taková láska ("Such Love"), is a two-part Czech drama by Pavel Kohout (1928-).

Probably best known by its German title,So eine Liebe ("Such a Love").

The text

Originally written and performed in Czech during the late 1950s, the play tells the story of a young university student named Lida. On the eve of her wedding, she runs into her childhood sweetheart, Peter, and calls off the wedding. Peter is married to a female doctor, but he believes he has fallen in love with Lida again. However, society and people around the couple exert such heavy moral pressure on Lida that she, feeling cornered and desperate, pulls away from Peter, flees, and falls from a moving train.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into German by Lucie Taubová and the German translation was done by Lucie Taubová and it became widely performed on European stages, particularly in German-speaking theaters during the 1950s and 1960s

The play was also adapted into a television movie in 1968, directed by Jiří Bělka [1]
