The Odeion
The Odeion is a performing arts venue originally built for the School of Music at the University of the Free State (UFS) in Bloemfontein in the 1960s.
Originally known simply as The Odeion or even the Odeion, it was later more fully referred to as the OFM Odeion, the OFM-Odeion Teater or the Odeion Concert Hall.
The venue
The name derives from the Ancient Greek: ᾠδεῖον (Romanized: ōideîon), literally meaning "singing place, used for Greek and Roman musical activities. In ancient times they were typically smaller than Greek and Roman theatres and had a roof for better acoustics.(See further Wikipedia[1]
The Bloemfontein hall has fine acoustics and a seating capacity of 372, making it a primary hub for classical music, operas, and theatre in the city.
