Nadya Cohen (19**-) Designer.

Biography

Training

She obtained a BA (Hons) Theatre Design in Wimbledon, UK.

Career

Nadya has been associated with the Market Theatre for many years, helping in the original organisation of the Art Gallery. In England Nadya designed Crystal Clear for the Wyndhams Theatre and The Caretaker for the Royal Exchange in Manchester.

She has been a design lecturer for Theatre crafts at the Wiwatersrand Technikon.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She designed the sets for The Glass Menagerie, Nongogo (2013), Hey Smile Wit' Me, The War at Home, True West, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Diepe Grond, Making Like America all for the Market Theatre Company. She also designed Blood Knot (1987), Sing jy van Bomme and the opera Othello.

Some of many other productions include Boesman and Lena (1993), Smallholding, Die Eend, Homegirls, Stand in the Sun (1999), Kindertransport (1997), Two Straight Queers (1996), Titus Andronicus (1995), Skylight (1996), Moby Dick (1994), The Dead Wait (1996), Touch My Blood.

Scenes from an Execution (Vita nominee 1994)

Naledi Award 2004, nominated regional (Tvl) 1993 for Death and the Maiden and Vita Gauteng for Nongogo (1995).
