Amateur society founded on 1 November 1928, at the instigation of Buster Harrison, who was elected treasurer. The first chairman was E. Gitsham. Soon three sub-divisions were created to cater for different interests, namely a drama reading-group, a theatre-production group and a musical group. To reflect this, the name was changed to the Krugersdorp Dramatic and Operatic Club later the year, and in 1931, after official municipal status was granted to the society, it became the Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society (KMDOS).
