Directorate of Arts, Culture and Heritage
The City of Johannesburg's Directorate of Arts, Culture and Heritage was established to ensure that all the communities of Jthe city are provided with creative and cultural outlets.
Also referred to as the Arts, Culture and Heritage Services Directorate or the Directorate of Arts, Culture and Heritage Services.
Among the many theatrical aspects that fall under its care are:
Three municipal-owned theatres (the Johannesburg Theatre, the Roodepoort Theatre and the Soweto Theatre), several arts community centres in Soweto and Alexandra the annual Arts Alive Festival and Johannesburg Carnival.
It is also responsible for the famous Johannesburg Art Gallery, and several prominent museums.
