Jan Cronjé. (19** - 19**) Teacher, Afrikaans stage and film actor and radio-announcer, public relations officer.

Career

Starting off as a performer for Volksteater in the late nineteen thirties, he was also a member of the Katdorings. Then became a member of the Pierre De Wet Toneelgeselskap (with Paula Styger, Anna Neethling-Pohl and Gert van den Bergh) which toured South Africa in 1944.

He later worked for NTO as well as the SABC. Became public relations officer for the city of Johannesburg.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

In 1941 he did Dagbreek (Wynand du Preez), for the Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society (Dir. Hermien Dommisse). Among the plays he did for Pierre De Wet Toneelgeselskap were Pinkie (Pierre de Wet, 1944) and Die Goeie Oue Tyd.

He later played in a number of amateur and professional productions (including the famous 1947 Afrikaans Hamlet) and went on tour for NTO.

He also acted in a number of the films made in the 1940s and 60s, including Simon Beyers (dir Pierre de Wet, 19**), Die Kaskenades van Dokter Kwak, Oupa en die Plaasnooientjie (1960).
