Jack and the Turtle-Doves is a play with music by Betty Misheiker (1919-2015).

The original text

A musical play for children, written and composed by Betty Misheiker. The libretto and the music and lyrics were published in two volumes by DALRO, dated 1974 and 1975 respectively.

Performance history in South Africa

1968: Performed by PACT Children's Theatre, directed by Jannie Gildenhuys and opening in the Alexander Theatre on 8 July 1968. The cast included Henk Hugo, Lorraine Elberg, Don Lamprecht, George Ballot, William Egan, Adéle van Blommenstein. Decor and costumes by Chris van den Berg, properties by Patricia Slavin

Libretto of Jack and the Turtle-doves, DALRO Playscripts, 1974 and the music and lyrics for Jack and the Turtle-doves, DALRO Playscripts, 1975. Both found in the Stellenbosch Drama Department's theatre archives and now held in the Performing Arts Research Collection (PARC) at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation, with offices at Pieter Okkers House, 7 Joubert Street, Stellenbosch, South Africa.

George Ballot scrapbooks, containing a programme and various reviews and articles on the production. (Provisionally held in the ESAT Archive, with the kind permission of Prof Muller Ballot[1] and consulted 2024-1925. Now held in the Performing Arts Research Collection (PARC) at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation.
