Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is a South African adaptation of Shakespeare's original play by Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer.

Based on an actual event, the play is set on the sailing ship The Red Dragon, off the east coast of South Africa, in 1608, where the crew aboard Captain Keeling's ship put on a production of the play, the six actors playing all the roles.


Performances

First performed at the Grahamstown Festival in July 2015, toured Europe in 2016 to play at the International Shakespeare Festival, Craiova, Romania, and returned in 2017 to perform for Pieter Toerien at the Theatre on the Bay (April) and Montecasino Theatre.

Tours the USA in 2017.
