En Folkefiende ("an enemy of the people") is a Norwegian play by Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906)[1]

The original text
A play about Doctor Thomas Stockmann, a medical officer, who is charged with inspecting the public baths on which the prosperity of his native town depends. He finds the water to be contaminated. When he refuses to be silenced, he is declared an enemy of the people.
The play was first published in in Norwegian in 1882 and performed in 1883.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into English as An Enemy of the People
A notable 20th century English version is the adaptation by Arthur Miller, first performed at Broadhurst Theatre, New York, in December 1950.
Translated into Afrikaans as Vyand van die Volk by F.P. van der Merwe in 1962 and adapted for radio.
Performance history in South Africa
1962: Broadcast in the Afrkaans as Vyand van die Volk on the SABC Afrikaans Service on 27 July, 1962.
