Der Nachtwächter
Der Nachtwächter ("The Night Watchman") is a German comedy in one act play by Carl Theodor Körner (1791 – 1813)[1].

First produced in the Vienna Burgtheater in 1812, also published that year.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Dutch as De Nachtwacht ("The Night Watchman") by a number of authors, including (possibly) by Joseph Suasso de Lima (1825, unpublished); by Salomon Deventer (published in 1844) and by G. de Vos (published in 1852).
Performance history in South Africa
1825: Performed in Dutch as De Nachtwacht (and billed a two-act comedy) in Cape Town by the children's company Tot Oefening en Smaak on 10 September, probably translated/adapted from the German and directed by Joseph Suasso de Lima. With Het Dal van Almeria (Von Kotzebue) and De Verjaring (Anon.).
1871: Performed in Dutch as De Nachtwacht by Kunst en Vlyt in the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Cape Town on 4 July and 1 August, with Siegfried van Hohenwart (Westerman)
1876: Performed in Dutch as De Nachtwacht by the rederijkerskamer De Eendracht in the Athenaeum Hall, Cape Town, on 28 June, with Roland de Monglave, of De Zegepraal der Onschuld (Loaisel-Tréogate/Engelman).
