Denise Stoklos (1950-)[1] is a Brazilian a playwright, director and actress

Biography

Born on 14 July 1950 in Irati, Paraná, Brazil, she began her career as a playwright, director and actress in 1968, performing in her home country. In 1987, while visiting New York for four months on a Fullbright scholarship, she created Denise Stoklos in Mary Stuart for La Mama Theatre, continuing to premier her plays in New York each year. Among them Hamlet in Irati, Casa, and numerous others.

She has also appeared in a number of films.[2]

She has published seven books of plays and performs her works in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, Russian, Ukrainian and German, appearing at important international events in thirty-one different countries, inclduing South Africa.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

1998: Performed, directed, designed and choreographed Denise Stoklos in Mary Stuart (billed as Maria Stuart) at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, 5, 7 and 8 July. Isla Jay was the lighting designer. Presented with the assistance of the Embassy of Brazil.
