Bronwyn van Graan (19**-2018) was an actress and theatre worker.

Born in Cape Town she studied drama at the University of Cape Town.

Married to Grant Spreadbury.

She sadly passed away on Easter Weekend, 2018.

Career

After graduating from UCT, Bronwyn van Graan worked with African Repertory Performance Programme (Arepp), travelling to schools around the country.

She then spent two years working as a project supervisor on a youth and media exchange programme in Canada and South Africa with youth from Botswana, South Africa and Canada via Bush Radio and Canada World Youth.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Her stage work include roles in Angels Everywhere and Stoutgatpassie (KKNK, Mac International Festival, Suidoosterfees and the Baxter Sanlam Studio).

Bronwyn has performed in two Baxter PlayGround Performed Readings, namely Echoes – based on the book Echoes of Slavery by Jackie Loos – and Shirley, Goodness and Mercy.

Baxter Theatre productions include Goldilocks, Snow White and Rose Red, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Alice in Christmas Wonderland. She participated in the Choose to Live Roadshow 2006, with Fusionworx, Black Noise and the Department of Community Safety. Bronwyn serves as treasurer on the board of Party with a Purpose Productions. Echoes/Eggos by Royston Stoffels (2008),

Other theatre credits include For Your Ears Only (The Playhouse); The Colored Museum (Market Theatre); Shirley, Goodness & Mercy (Baxter Theatre and Market Theatre); Stoutgatpassie (Baxter Theatre); Diggydotcom 3 (Frascati, Amsterdam), Scorched (National Arts Festival, University of Johannesburg, The Playhouse).

Between 2010 – 2015 she was a resident cast member of Haas en Kaas Productions , performing under the direction of Nicola Hanekom in Betesda, Lot, Babbel, Land van Skedels and In Glas at various Afrikaans festivals around the country.

Her radio work included being a core cast member of Radio Vuka, a daily radio soap opera on SAfm which recently recorded its last episode after 8 years – Bronwyn had been the voice of Jessie since 2012. Her radio series / drama credits include Jigsaw six-part series (SAfm); Psychotic Minds season 2 (SAfm); Bessie’s Head (SAfm); The Bungalow (SAfm); Kroes (RSG); PaperchasE (BBC & Bush Radio); Playing In The Light (SAfm); What Happens In Hoedspruit (SAfm) and Father and Son (SAfm) to name a few.

In television she had a role in 7de Laan and cameo roles in Swartwater (SABC); Deeltitel Dames (KYK-Net); Malan En Kie (SABC) and Holby City (BBC).

Film work For the feature film Four Corners, she was a dialect coach to the child lead.

Other theatrical activities:

Wardrobe credits : she was HOD on Dirty Dancing (SA, HK & Singapore); Deputy HOD Phantom Of The Opera (ArtscapE & Teatro) & Grease the Musical (SA, HK & NZ); as Assistant on Jesus Christ Superstar. Wardrobe credits for TV include Jozihood; Yoh; Family Affair; Ingoma (Mzanzi Magic).

She was also a trustee of Insight Study Tours Trust, and had been appointed as the new Administrator for SAGA (South African Guild of Actors) shortly before her passing.
