Anton Blake Horowitz
Anton Blake Horowitz (1962-) is a South African born actor
Born on January 4, 1962 in East London, South Africa, he began his professional career in 1979 as a 16-year-old, playing small roles in the Space Theatre in Cape Town, South Africa.
He then moved to London two years later, where he performed at London's Old Vic, playing "Macheath" in a Youth Production of The Beggar's Opera (John Gay). Shortly thereafter, he began formal drama studies, attending the Drama Centre and completing BA degree in Acting at the University of the Arts London (1981-1983) followed by an MA Degree in Playwriting and Screen writing (with Distinction) at Royal Holloway, University of London (2009-2010) and doing a short course in Directing at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
His ensuing acting career has been varied and successful, including stage, TV and film work. For example, he has performed extensively onstage in London, Edinburgh, New York, Johannesburg and Berlin, working with such eminent directors as Luc Bondy and Stephen Daldry. Among the roles have been "Mick" in The Caretaker (Pinter), "Cassius" in Julius Caesar (Shakespeare), "Martin Taylor" in Brimstone & Treacle (Dennis Potter) and "AA" in Emigrants (Mroszek).
He has also appeared in a number of films, among them Mario Cavalli's award-winning film The Cask of Amontillado (as "Montresor"), and television series, most recently for the BBC, where roles have included Horatio Nelson's best friend, Henry Blackwood and heart-transplant pioneer, Christiaan Barnard.
His ability with accents has ensured a growing career as voice-over artist where he has played various Russians, Germans and Americans for international commercials.
In 2020 he decided to go back to the name Anton Blake Horowitz, with which he had begun when he joined the profession in 1979. After decades of working in the theatre and on the screen under the name of Anton Blake he finally reached the conclusion that, at this stage in his career, he should embrace his origins with pride.
