Alvin Cinema
Alvin Cinema was a venue in Link Road, Camps Bay.
History
The cinema had been created on the site of an old disused power station and tram shed near the Camps Bay beach (originally built between 1899 and 1900).
After a fire destroyed their original venue (the Camps Bay Pavilion), the Camps Bay Operatic and Dramatic Society took over and converted the Alvin Cinema. They called their new venue the Phoenix Theatre. The venue was bought by Pieter Toerien in 1987 and redeveloped as the Theatre on the Bay.
For more information, see Camps Bay Operatic and Dramatic Society and Theatre on the Bay.
