Neville Thomas (19*-). Actor.

Biography

He was born in Welkom.

Training

He studied Drama at the University of Cape Town.

Career

He joined CAPAB in 1976 where he acted in both English and Afrikaans plays. He moved to Johannesburg in 1982.


Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He has appeared in Richard III (CAPAB 1976), Arms and the Man (CAPAB 1977), Hamlet, Much Ado about Nothing, Twelfth Night and Macbeth for CAPAB, Romeo and Juliet for the Market, Julius Caesar for PACOFS, A Comedy of Errors and The Taming of the Shrew for PACT. He starred in Oh What a Lovely War!, Hay Fever (CAPAB 1978), in Christmas Crackers (Baxter, 1981), Lunatic and Lover at the People's Space in 1982, The Island of Slaves and in In Praise of Rattigan together with Rex Garner, Jonathan Rands and Fiona Ramsay with direction by Rex Garner in 1984. He starred in William M. Hoffman’s As Is which was directed by Janice Honeyman, The Anastasia File (Pieter Toerien, 1986), and in Miscarriage of Murder in 1986. Alex Gal in Rough Crossing, 1987-88. A Trinity of Two, 1989, Single Spies, 1990. He starred in PACT’s annual pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Alexander Theatre in 1991. He payed Boolie Werthan in Driving Miss Daisy at the Baxter Theatre, 1991, Noises Off (2005), My Fair Lady (as "Pickering. 2006), The Rocky Horror Show (narrator, 2008), Beauty and the Beast (Artscape 2009), The Boys in the Photograph (2010), The Wedding Party (writer-producer Kelley Thorrington, 2011).

Television appearances include The Merchant of Venice, Jollers, The Big Time. Neville has also received billing in the feature films Hold My Hand I'm Dying, The Native Who Caused All the Trouble and Traitors.

For 16 years he appeared in a series of TV commercials playing the role of a blundering Tempest executive forced to act in the commercials in order to save money.

Awards, etc

While with CAPAB he won a Three Leaf Award as Best Student and was nominated for his part in Shaw's Arms and the Man
