A musical with music, lyrics and a book by Richard O'Brien. The original London production premiered at the Royal Court Theatre (Upstairs) on 19 June 1973.

"A humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970s, the musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a muscle man named Rocky Horror." Performance history in South Africa

1992-1993: First done by CAPAB opening at the Nico Malan Theatre on 3 April 1992 and the Baxter Theatre, 1992-1993, with Dr Frank N. Furter played by Jeremy Crutchley in 1992, and later by David Dennis (1993) with Norman Coombes as the narrator. Others in the cast were Bradley Mart as "Brad", Lana Green as "Janet" and Craig Urbani as "Rocky".

2000: Staged in 2000 by Colin Law in The Civic in Johannesburg.

2004: Staged in February 2004 in the Spier Amphitheatre by the Dimpho Di Kopane Troupe, with Kurt Haupt (Dr Frank N. Furter), Jim Ngxabaze (Brad), Thandiwe Mesele (Janet), Andries Mbali (Riffraff) and Bulelwa Cosa (Magenta).

2013: Staged in the Fugard Theatre in Cape Town in 2013, directed by Matthew Wild, with Brendan van Rhyn (Dr Frank N. Furter), Paul du Toit (Brad) and Jenny Stead (Janet).
