Klaas Steytler (1922-1998). Renowned journalist, novelist, playwright. He used the pseudonym Jan Harmse in some of his writing.

Biography

He was born on 20 April 1922 and grew up in the Free State. He studied at Wits and the University of Cape Town and started his career as jounalist at Die Vaderland.

Klaas was married to novelist and playwright Elsa Joubert. He died in Cape Town on 27 August 1996.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He wrote the one-act play Die Gyselaar and the television dramas Die Tweede Moord and Die Broers Swart.

He wrote the script for the ten-part televison series Dirk Hofmann in 1986.
