CAPAB's first production of an indigenous play was this historical drama built around the character of Willem Adriaan van der Stel. It opened at the Hofmeyr Theatre on 22 August 1964. The director was Ria le Roux, the wife of Prof Fred le Roux, and an actress in her own right under her maiden name, Ria Olivier. There were 28 performances of Vergelegen at 15 venues in places like Saldanha, Malmesbury, Robertson, Piketberg and Clanwilliam. It was seen by 7 516 people. Fred le Roux played the part of Van der Heiden, Paul Malherbe that of Van der Stel. Others in the cast were Herman Steytler, Fanie Bekker, Johan Grobler,Jurie Hanekom and Bertie van der Merwe.
