UNyoni(“Bird” – Zulu) is a play by M.B. Khumalo.


It is a translation of an Afrikaans stage play by Louw Odendaal and Carl van Heerden entitled Nyoni. Deals with a girl's conflict between love and respect for her father who betroths her to an unattractive crippled man to pay off debt, and her love for Debula. Before she can elope she drowns accidentally.
