The Most Happy Fella [1] is a 1956 Broadway musical with a book, music, and lyrics by Frank Loesser (1910-1969) [2].

The original text

The story, about a romance between an older man and younger woman, is based on the play They Knew What They Wanted by Sidney Howard (1891–1939) [3].

Performance history in South Africa

The show, directed by Joseph Anthony, opened at the Imperial Theatre on May 3, 1956 and ran for 676 performances. First staged in South Africa at the Civic Theatre by the JODS in 1962, directed and with décor and costumes by Anthony Farmer. Musical director: Derrick Lewis. It starred Edwin Steffe.
