The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922.

Performance history in South Africa
PACT presented the Peter Terry adaptation directed by Craig Freimond at the Alexander Theatre and the Arena, Pretoria, starring Susan Danford (Daisy), Stephen Jennings (Gatsby), David Butler, David Clatworthy, Emma-Jane Mezher, Mitzi Booysen, Michael McCabe, Alistair Prodgers, Dale Cutts, David Dukas, Lisa Morris. Stage manager Kobus Rossouw.
A UCT production was directed by Blaise Koch starring Matthew Wild circa 2000.
2011: A The Mechanicals production in the Little Theatre was directed by Luke Ellenbogen starring Scott Sparrow, Nicholas Pauling, Emily Child, Kate Liquorish, Andrew Laubscher, Deborah Vieyra, Adrian Collins and Mikkie-dene le Roux.
