The German title of a play by Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnár(1878-1952).

The original play

Originally written in Hungarian as Játék a kastélyban and translated into German as Spiel im Schloss, and called "eine Anekdote in drei Akten" ("an "anecdote" in three acts"). Published in German in 1926 by Sesam-Verlag Bühnenwerke in Vienna.

Translations and adaptations

Translated and freely adapted into Afrikaans as Vrydag ("Friday") by H. Rooseboom, set in a large hotel in Muizenberg, in contemporary times.

Performance history in South Africa

1929: Produced in Afrikaans as Vrydag by the Oranjeklub in the Railway Institute, Cape Town, on 3 and 4 May. Directed by Jas. J. Broodryk, with D.H.P. Breek, H. Rooseboom, Gideon Roos, miss C. Kotzé, Ch. Weich, J.J. Blom and H.J. Rooseboom Jnr.

1949: Produced in Afrikaans as Vrydag by K.A.T., in Cape Town during September. Directed by Herman Steytler.
