Robert Patrick [1] (born September 27, 1937) is an American playwright, poet, lyricist, and short-story writer and novelist.

Biography

Grew up in Texas, studied at Eastern New Mexico University and began his career in New York, becoming a prolific writer for Off-Off Broadway theatres, before going to California where he founded La Mama Hollywood. Widely travelled, his works being performed all over the world.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He visited South Africa in the 1970s, to direct his play Kennedy's Children for the Space Theatre in Cape Town. His energy and experience apparently had a most timulating influence on the artists there.

Among his other plays performed in South Africa are The Arnold Bliss Show (The Space, 1979), My Cup Ranneth Over (The Space, 1978), The Haunted Host (Fringe & Market Theatre, 1981), Kennedy's Children (The Space, 1975), (Eauver the Top, Muizenberg, 199*), T-Shirts (1982) and possibly Michelangelo's Models (1981).
