Makin, of De Ontdekking van Madera is a play by Abraham Louis Barbaz (1770 – 1833)[1].

The original text

Based on a 1777 story by by Baculard d'Arnaud entitled Makin, Anecdote Anglaise (published by Delalain, 1777/Moutard 1781). The play first performed (?) and published by P. J. Uylenbroeck,1800.

Performance history in South Africa

1822: Performed in Dutch in the African Theatre, Cape Town on 23 November by Tot Nut en Vermaak, with as De Lotery Briefjes (De Florian/Bingley) and Het Losse Schot (Von Kotzebue).

1823: Performed in Dutch in the African Theatre, Cape Town on 18 June by Tot Nut en Vermaak, with a "Groot Concert" ("Great Concert") entitled De Batailje van Waterloo, of La Belle Alliance.
