Leonard Whiting [1] (1950-) English actor who is best known for his role as Romeo in the 1968 Zeffirelli film version of Romeo and Juliet opposite Olivia Hussey's Juliet.
Contribution to South African Theatre, Film, Media and Performance
He starred in A Touch of Spring which was directed by Philip Grout and presented by Pieter Toerien at the Civic Theatre, Johannesburg in 1972. He was to have given two charity performances for the Phoenix Players in January 1973 but these were cancelled after a police raid on a hall in Lenasia shortly before Mr Whiting was to have appeared before an Asian audience. The Phoenix Players decided to cancel the show after they were warned that they would be breaking the law. He returned to England on 28 January 1973.
Toerien brought him out again in 1976 to star in the Ben Travers farce, The Bed Before Yesterday, together with Jean Kent, Marjorie Gordon, Naomi Buch, Graham Armitage and Gordon Mulholland.
