F.C.L. Bosman (1980) refers to two people simply known as "Leonard".

Bosman also names three other people with the surname of "Leonard": C.W. Leonard, Chrissie Leonard and F.W. Leonard (see the entries on them).

"Leonard" the performer (fl 1870s)

Listed as one of the troupe known as The Kickapoos, he is sometimes referred to as Mr Leonard, in the style of the period.

The The Kickapoos was apparently founded by, and consisted of, Mr Wilmore, Mr Leonard and Mr Pine, who performed minstrel-style in productions in Cape Town.

"Leonard" the playwright/translator/adaptor (fl 1880s)

A Leonard is mentioned as the Dutch author of one act plays and translator/adaptor of a number of French plays. Though it is not specified whether this person was a Dutch citizen resident in Holland or in South Africa, it seems probable that he/she may have been a Cape Town resident, and was most probably a member of the local Rederijkerskamer for which the translations had been done.

The plays ascribed to Leonard include Levend Verbrand, De Zwarte Kaptein

Plays apparently translated/adapted by Leonard include De Hoed van den Horlogemaker,
