Langs die Steiltes ("along the precipices") is an an Afrikaans play by Gerhard J. Beukes (1913 - 1998).

The original text

Full title: Langs die steiltes: hoogtepunte uit ons driehonderdjarige volkswording. ("Along the precipices: highlights from our three hundred years of existence".)

The play was written for the Van Riebeeck Festival in 1952, but first performed in 1953.

Published in Cape Town by Nasionale Boekhandel in 1952, reprinted 1959.

Beukes was joint winner (with W.A. de Klerk) of the Hertzog Prize for Drama in 1952 for his plays Langs die Steiltes, Salome Dans! and As Ons Twee Eers Getroud Is!.

1953: Performed during the first large Day of the Covenant celebrations to be held at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria. Directed by André Huguenet and Aletta Gericke.
