Studied at the Stellenbosch University (1991 – 1994), then became an influential arts journalist and theatre reviewer with the Beeld newspaper (January 1995 – August 2009). At the same time he was appointed as a member of the Kunstekabinet ("Arts cabinet") for the KKNK and judge for the Nagtegaalprys for drama (2005). In 2009 appointed to the management team of the KKNK Programme Manager.

He left in 2010 to pursue a creative career alongside his journalistic writing, and in May 2012 was appointed Executive Producer: Drama for the SABC station RSG (Radio Sonder Grense).
