He was born in Durban. He is married to the actress Nicola Hanekom.
Training
Graduated with a Diploma in Speech and Drama from the Technikon Natal. He has a training certificate from Damelin College.
Career
Post-graduation he was accepted as a young professional into the Loft Theatre Company. He then entered the professional entertainment industry, concentrating on acting in film, television and on stage. In 1995, Swanby relocated to Johannesburg and, for two years, did corporate and industrial theatre. From 2002 to 2004 he appeared in productions of My Night with Reg, including the Afrikaans version [[My Aand met Arné.
