The Good Hope Masonic Lodge was a lodge in Cape Town in the 19th century.

Also known as the Goede Hoop Lodge or the Goede Hoop Masonic Lodge Dutch.

The Lodge

Built in 1800, it doubled as a performance venue over the course of its existence.

Its role in South African theatre and performance

Musical concerts were held at the Good Hope Lodge Gardens on Friday evenings during the summer. Later in the 19th century it played an important part in theatrical activities, when an the exhibition hall evolved from the Lodge in 1875. Formally named the Good Hope Exhibition Hall and Theatre it was more popularly referred to simply as the Exhibition Hall, the Exhibition Theatre or the Good Hope Hall.
