Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

6 - 19 July, 1968: Played the role of "Tommy Albright" in Brigadoon, staged by the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society at the Port Elizabeth Opera House, directed by Helen Mann with musical director Peter K Woolston.

He was appointed general director of CAPAB in 1989 after six years as the council’s Eastern Cape director. At the time he had 20 years experience in commerce and industry behind him.

"In 1983 Mr. Loopuyt was appointed as the CAPAB Regional Director in the Eastern Cape. He then followed Ge Korsten as the General Director of CAPAB at the Nico Malan Theatre, now Artscape, in 1988. In 1997 he took early retirement and was succeeded by Mr. Michael Maas. George was a true lover of all performing arts and during his directorship at CAPAB he also established the CAPAB Musicals Department which produced some great musical theatre including productions like: Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Mame and Hair. Collaborations with the other Arts Councils also brought several great productions to the Artscape stage, including: A Chorus Line, Crazy for You, Oklahoma! and Queen at the Opera." From obituary announcement on Artscape's Facebook page.
