Genugtig! Uitgewers

Genugtig! publishers, Cape Town was founded by the Nagtegaal family in 2003. *** Theatre-related books include Slaghuis by Willem Anker (2007), * Genugtig! Alert! Genugtig! Uitgewers is no more. The publishing house, started as a hobby in 2003 “to afford debut writers a chance”, has changed its name – to Joho!

The old imprint was managed by a veritable coterie of Nagtegaals: Vera, Jackie and Reinet (who are award winning Afrikaans authors) and Dirk; they were joined by Bev Maritz and the literary icon Jeanne Goosen. Between 2003 and 2006 a few best-sellers and literary prizes caused healthy growth.

In 2006 Jackie and Vera took over full-time with Bev. They increased production massively and for the first time also included English titles.

One of these was Look at Me: Photographs and stories of 23 disabled women, compiled by Marlene le Roux, which earned Genugtig! new focus. Look at Me caused quite a stir, and was made into an exhibition that is set to travel internationally.
