Francois Toerien (197*-) Actor, comedian, director and television personality.

Biography

He was married to the actress Nicole Holm.

Youth

Training

Studied history and theory of drama at the University of Stellenbosch, then did an Honours Degree in Directing at the Drama Department at the University of Stellenbosch.

Career

Initially actor and director for the Stellebosch based Spektrum Produksies, he later managed the company for Johan (JJ) Fourie. Also ran the Klein Libertas Teater two years (1998-1999?*). In 2000 he was selected as one of the continuity presenters for KykNet, the Afrikaans commercial TV channel and became a nationally recognized celebrity.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Besides the television work he performed in a number of prose and verse productions with his former wife Nicole Holm (normally compiled and directed by Juanita Swanepoel for the KKNK festival) and had an enormous success as Trompie in the popular comedy Roadkill/Padkos by Malan Steyn (2000-2001). , **, Vrypas (KKNK and NAF, 2006),

He wrote and directed the immensely popular annual series Die Francois Toerien Show at the Little Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch.

Roles in Die Renosters (1994), Cardboard Dreams, Eet Alles, Kringe in 'n Bos, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Vrypas, Yerma, Die Vampier, Jan en Jorie, Roadkill/Padkos, Le Malade Imaginaire, Vuilspel.

Directed Outopsie, Daai V-Ding, Lunch Girls, wrote and directed Rekmerke: Grepe uit 'n Swangerskap, directed Sara (2008).

Wrote the text for the pantomime Jan en die Boontjierank.

As director he has done ** Eet Alles by Malan Steyn (Aardklop, 2004), Vrededorp by Charles Fourie (KKNK, 2005), **

He was a winner of the ATKV's Youth Drama competition.(Tienertoneelkompetisie) .
