Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He has appeared on stage in Die Jakkalsstreke van Scapino (UTS 1963), Don Carlos, Cowardy Custard, My Three Angels, She Stoops to Conquer, Drie Dae Meester, Electra, Op Hoop van Seën (1964), a production in Afrikaans of Antigone (by Jean Anouilh) (1965) for which he also designed the decor.

Deon wrote a master's thesis on W.E.G. Louw as theatre critic (1972) and completed a doctoral dissertation on theatre criticism in South Africa in 1974 (Joubert, Gideon Jacobus).
